Main duties of placement:

Care of patients on general medical ward; day-to-day and emergency.

Typical work pattern:
  • Full shift, including seven nights per every four months and moderate amount of evening/weekend cover.
  • Includes receiving unit cover.
  • FY1s are ward-based.
Learning opportunities:
  • Continuous learning from seniors during ward rounds, and in particular when on-call.
  • Audit opportunities.
Teaching:
  • Compulsory FY1 teaching.
  • Tuesday lunchtime radiology meetings.
  • Friday lunchtime divisional meetings with opportunities to present cases.
