Main duties of placement:
  • Care of adults undergoing general surgical and surgical specialty procedures.
  • Acute surgical receiving - taking GP referrals and admitting patients to the acute surgical ward (4A).
  • Ward rounds each morning.
  • Opportunities to attend theatre sessions and perform some minor operations.
Typical work pattern:

Full shift pattern including:

  • Normal standard day (8am - 4pm)
  • Long days (8am - 8pm)
  • Back shift (12noon - 8pm)
  • Late shift (4pm - midnight)
  • Night shift
Learning opportunities:
  • Weekly surgical journal club.
  • Many possible audit projects available with dedicated monthly meetings which provide presentation opportunities.
