Main duties of placement:

Day shifts, long days, weekends and taster nights. FY1s also cover ‘virtual’ ward patients – these are patients at home who are awaiting scans, procedures, results etc

Typical work pattern:
  • Review new admissions and assessment of patients requiring early intervention.
  • Carrying out tasks for ongoing patient care.
  • Being part of the post-take ward rounds.
Learning opportunities:

Well supported role, highly motivated team and plenty of opportunities for Workplace Based Assessments.

Teaching:

Robust Foundation Teaching programme in NHSL and Foundation doctors have protected time on rota to attend this.

Unique selling points:

Core part of acute medical team, i.e. not rotational into other non-acute areas.
