Main duties of placement:

Respiratory Medicine (with an academic focus - research) – with acute medical oncall.

70% clinical and 30% research.

Respiratory Medicine component based in wards 7 and 8 at UHW.

Being part of ward rounds, clerking in patients and being part of the respiratory MDT.

Research component integrated into the management of respiratory patients – both inpatients and outpatients.

Linking into clinics, developing systems and databases

Typical work pattern:

9-5pm in the respiratory clinical areas.

Acute medical oncall at the front door– long days or weekends with an opportunity for taster nights

Learning opportunities:

Breadth of experience in both respiratory and acute medicine to achieve foundation competencies and additional opportunities to be involved in academia and research capabilities within the unit.

Teaching:

Comprehensive respiratory and medical teaching programme available to all foundation trainees, including Foundation teaching in NHS Lanarkshire.

Unique selling points:

3 consultants who are research active within the department with job planned time to lead research.

There is also a clinical trials unit within the department.

The unit have strong links with the University of Strathclyde and the three research consultants are visiting professors at Strathclyde with close collaboration between computer science, engineering and respiratory medicine
