Main duties of placement:

Combination of looking after inpatients on the Children's Ward, neonatal ward and paediatric short assessment unit (PSSAU) and helping acutely unwell A/E patients.

On-call for admissions and inpatient referrals and ward cover.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift

8:30am - 4:30pm or 9am - 5pm or 2pm -11pm 9pm-9am week days.

All patient clerked with the person assigned to the (PSSAU) 9am-5pm who is basically the on call person. Other persons are receiving from family doctors and A/E. weekdays

2pm - 11pm will be cross cover till after 5pm where he/she become the on-call doctor. weekdays

8:30am - 9pm and over the weekends. The person on those shifts is the on-call who receive and clerk the patient

9pm - 8:30am cross cover between the Obstetric and Paediatric team

Learning opportunities:

Informal Teaching at ward round, Paediatric grand and Wednesday teaching session.

On-site library facilities available 24/7.

Excellent computer access for e-learning and online modules.

Teaching:

Daily teaching in the ward round in combination with the medical students.

Once weekly presentation at the education centre.

Mandatory bleep-free FY2 teaching 1 hr per week at lunchtime on Thursday and opportunity to attend general teaching in the morning.
