Main duties of placement: | Pre-consultant review of patients, ward rounds attendance, arranging and reviewing investigations. As FY2- As above + Pre-admission assessment of patients in outreach areas under consultant supervision |
Typical work pattern: | Combination of short days (08:30 - 21:00) and small contribution to night rota. Approximate weekend frequency 1 in 3. Approx 3 sets of 4 night in a 4 month rotation. Consultant and more senior trainee present on site at all times. |

Teaching: | Weekly consultant led teaching Opportunity for presentations at the unit meetings with feedback Participation in Morbidity and Mortality meetings. |
Unique selling points: | The ICU placement has consistently gained positive trainee feedback. The trainees have felt that the consultant supervision, direct and indirect teaching they receive and in particular procedural experience they gain are the best bits of their ICU time. The foundation trainees get direct senior and consultant support in all their clinical work. |
