Main duties of placement: |

Typical work pattern: | Generally 9- 5pm. Day-time 'duty doctor' slots dependent on staff cover but never exceeded two half day slots per week. Two trainees on call during day time 9-5pm and one trainee sometimes visits Vale of Leven to help with ward round. Late shifts at GRH 5-9pm, weekends 9-9pm or nightshift. Vale of Leven on-calls from home 5pm-9 am or weekends. On-call psychiatry assessments. Outpatient clinics seeing new GP referrals. New admission clerk-ins. |
Learning opportunities: | Opportunity to shadow clinics/MDTs with Teams like ESTEEM (First episode psychosis), Eating Disorders and Forensic Psychiatry. Weekly one hour protected supervision with Clinical Supervisors. |
Teaching: | Teaching for all members of the team every Thursday morning alternate weeks GRH (all medical staff) - variety of topics and open to all. Trainees all welcome. Dedicated FY2 West of Scotland Teaching sessions Compulsory FY2 teaching one day per block. Weekly one hour Balint Group sessions, supervised by Consultant Psychotherapist to help understand and improve doctor-patient interaction. Ward- and team-based teaching on request. |
Unique selling points: | Work directly with consultants or senior registrars - always approachable, helpful and willing to teach! Rota very reasonable and OOH shifts not in excess. Opportunity to do outpatient clinics. Lots to learn and always time for lunch and a cup of tea. |
