Main duties of placement:

Ward work.

Weekly general outpatient clinic.

Weekly addiction outpatient clinic and daytime and out of hours on call duties including emergency assessments referred via GP, A&E and CMHT.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift.

Learning opportunities:

Internal Teaching – fortnightly (0.5 day)

External teaching – fortnightly (0.5 day)

i.e. 0.5 day formal teaching per week

Teaching:

1 hour per week formal educational supervision.

Ad hoc formal clinical supervision but general clinical supervision for advice etc. always available.

Unique selling points:

Within the past 3 years the department has been awarded a certificate of Excellence in Training both in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Due to the local configuration of services the FY2 is offered a range of inpatient and outpatient experience and exposure to a quantity and quality of acute assessments not often available in other psychiatry posts.
