Main duties of placement:
  • Ward rounds on both children's ward and SCBU.
  • Ward jobs following ward rounds.
  • Post-natal baby checks.
  • Attendance at deliveries.
  • Assessment of acutely unwell children in short stay.
  • Limited clinic sessions.
  • Out of hours cover for both sites.
Typical work pattern:

Full shift.

Learning opportunities:

Teaching ward rounds on SCBU and ward Monday to Friday as consultant-led.

Excellent registrar supervision on short stay.

Teaching:

Weekly teaching session for trainees.

Weekly departmental teaching.

Regular weekly opportunity for telemedicine links to regional paediatric CPD sessions.

Working in paediatrics is in itself a unique experience and will provide any doctor with specific skills in communication, clinical assessment, practical abilities and resuscitation whichever his/her chosen speciality.
