Main duties of placement:

Skye House Adolescent Inpatient Unit (West of Scotland Regional Unit), Stobhill Hospital- 24 bedded unit

  1. Physical health care of all inpatients.
  2. Working with young people and families

  3. Assessment and management of adolescent mental health disorders.

  4. Risk assessment and management.

  5. Working as part of medical and multi-disciplinary team.

  6. Case management with supervision.

  7. Managing admission and discharge processes.

  8. Attending team meetings and other clinical meetings.

  9. Safe prescribing
Typical work pattern:

Monday - patient reviews, progress review meetings, clinical tasks (all days of the week)

Tuesday - Dr Devasahayam team meeting

Wednesday - Dr Blazys team meeting

Thursday - CPD/reflective practice

Friday - Pharmacy meeting

Learning opportunities:
  1. Learn from medical team including consultants, higher trainees in CAMHS and specialty doctors.
  2. Learn from other members of the multi-disciplinary team such as psychology, pharmacy, family therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics and nursing team.
  3. In house CPD programme at Skye House.
  4. Working with young people and families.
  5. Use of Mental Health Act.
  6. Child protection/ safeguarding issues.
  7. Safe prescribing in young people with mental health disorders.
Teaching:
  1. Attend Foundation Year training programme.
  2. Attend Skye House CPD programme.
  3. Can attend 2 weekly reflective practice group.
  4. Psychopharmacology discussions at weekly pharmacy meetings. 
  5. Opportunities to work with nursing staff with physical healthcare tasks.
Unique selling points:
  • Experience with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, self-harm and suicidal risk, eating disorders, trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD/ADHD) and personality disorder- presentation in adolescent population.
  • Working in a regional West of Scotland adolescent inpatient unit.
  • Experienced medical team with a range of psychiatrists to observe and work with.
  • Plenty of opportunities to receive clinical supervision.
  • Strong multi-disciplinary ethos and capacity to work with different disciplines (psychology, family therapy, occupational therapy.
  • Working with young people, families and wider social networks on an intensive basis. 

SDT time - There will be opportunities to support this, and to receive support from the medical team.
