Main duties of placement:

Medical management of patients undergoing rehabilitation at the Biggart Hospital.

Assessment and management of patients admitted to the acute stroke ward at Ayr hospital,

Hospital at night duties.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift, including night shifts, with medical receiving duties 2100-0100 at Ayr and off-site on-call duty for the Biggart hospital 0100-0900.

Day shifts at Biggart and Ayr hospitals.

Learning opportunities:

Opportunistic ward-based teaching mostly at Ayr hospital.

Teaching:

Mandatory Wednesday morning teaching sessions with 1 presentation each given by a consultants and FY2.

Unique selling points:

This placement will give a foundation in medical management of elderly patients.

Medical receiving work through hospital at night is varied and a highlight and together with work on Ayr stroke ward offers good learning opportunities.
