Main duties of placement:
  • Ward rounds/ward work.
  • 1st on-call (1 in 3 days).
  • Emergency clinics twice per week.
Typical work pattern:
  • Half day (0830-1200).
  • Full day (0830-1600).
  • On-Call (0830-2115).
Learning opportunities:
  • Ward-based teaching.
  • Emergency clinics.
  • Head and Neck cancer MDT.
  • ENT Departmental meetings (weekly).
Teaching:

No formal teaching; occurs in clinical setting usually when on-call.

Occasional teaching sessions at ENT Departmental meeting.

Unique selling points:

Close working relationship with seniors/consultants.

First person to see acute ENT emergencies.

Practical i.e. nasal cauterisation/nasendoscopy.

Can present at ENT departmental meetings.
