Main duties of placement:

Assessment, investigation and treatment of adult and paediatric patients presenting to Monklands ED.

Discharge or onward referral/admission as appropriate.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift rota.

Weekend night shifts are included in company with an experienced middle grade Emergency Medicine trainee.

Learning opportunities:

Monklands ED is a busy department with a challenging case mix across the whole spectrum of emergency presentations.

There is direct consultant supervision between 0800 and 2300 weekdays and 0800 and 2130 at the weekends and a highly experienced team of nurses also providing support.

Teaching:

There are 2 hours of protected teaching per week within the department and plentiful material for audit projects.

Trainees are released for mandatory FY2 training sessions.

Consultant presence allows for frequent 'shop floor' teaching.
