Main duties of placement:

Day to day management of patients on renal unit, including conducting ward rounds and attending rounds led by more senior doctors.

Holding renal referral/advice phone (but with full support of consultants).

Rotation to Medical Assessment Unit and Acute Medical Receiving Unit.

Out-of-hours cover to other medical wards.

Typical work pattern:

9-5 interspersed with long days, weekends, nights and zero days.

Learning opportunities:

Tuesday Junior Doctor Teaching, Wednesday Grand Round, Simulation session, Advanced Life Support course, Ability to attend Foundation Programme Training Days

Teaching:

Opportunities to teach University of Glasgow medical students – bedside teaching, on the ward teaching and other opportunities offered centrally by the University.

Unique selling points:

Friendly hospital, a lot of interaction/discussion with consultants, holding the renal referral/advice phone (with accessible consultants to discuss each call).
