Placement Emergency Medicine (with 1 day per week in Realistic Medicine)

Main Duties of Placement

Seeing emergency patients “at the front door”.

Decision making about treatment.

Admission or discharge.

Realistic Medicine (1 day per week)

There is an active Realistic Medicine programme in NHSL, with a Clinical Lead and two deputy Leads, supported by a full time programme manager. The main aim of the group is to support and deliver on the national Realistic Medicine and Value based Health Care programmes. There will be ample opportunities for a FY trainee to engage with the programme and undertaken innovative and QI work in their area of interest.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift.

Learning Opportunities

Consultant shopfloor presence from 8am until 11pm (until 8pm Saturday and Sunday) providing direct patient supervision and teaching.

Teaching

Weekly protected departmental teaching sessions.

Unique Selling Points

Acute care of both adult and paediatric patients. Direct consultant support.
