Main Duties of Placement

Provision of day to day cover and care for patients in wards 2 and 3 (assessment and rehabilitation) Larkfield Unit, ward 1 (supportive care) Larkfield unit and ward KS (stroke).

Attachments to Acute Medical Receiving Unit.

Work involves day to day looking after patients, taking part in ward rounds, maintenance of case records, collation of results etc.

Typical Work Pattern

9am to 5pm day duty (2pm to 9.30pm when on AMU).

Weekday 5pm to 9.30 pm and weekend 9am to 9.30 pm cover on call cover for MFTE service with input to the AMU when available. 1 in 6 full shift.

Overnight 9pm to 9am cover for MFTE service, Psychiatry service with input to the AMU when available. 1 in 12 full-shift.

Option to attend specialist OP clinics (Stroke, Falls Movement Disorders).

Audit projects encouraged.

Extended Psychiatric induction to allow provision of cover for Psychiatry overnight.

Teaching

Weekly MFTE teaching meeting for juniors with range of tutorials and case and topic presentations by FY2s.

Weekly lunch time meeting (department of medicine or hospital-wide) providing presentations on a range of topics.

Time made available for attendance at statutory FY2 teaching sessions including ALS if necessary.

Unique Selling Points

Wide experience in a range of areas including Stroke and AMU.

Mostly working 1:1 with consultants.

Experience of working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
