Placement Infectious Diseases
Year F2
Region West
Hospital(s) University Hospital Monklands, Airdrie
Main Duties of Placement

Care of patients with all types of infectious disease. Some General Medical Admissions.

Ward round and clinics.

Three week placement in the Acute Receiving Unit.

Typical Work Pattern

Band 2b.

15 week rolling rota.

Usually on base ward.

Occasionally required to cross cover another specialty.

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based teaching.

MDT meeting.

Weekly journal club.

Teaching

Protected Tuesday lunchtime teaching.

Wednesday lunchtime hospital meeting.

F2 days away teaching.

F2 clinical skills week.

Monthly academic half day.

Unique Selling Points

Opportunity to become experienced at managing patients with infectious diseases.

Opportunity to become familiar with management of chronic viral hepatitis and HIV.

Busy ward but very well supported by consultant staff.

Good teaching ward rounds.

Plenty of practical experience; lumbar punctures and central lines in particular.
