Eastward training programmes
GP practices within the Eastward GP Speciality Training programme are situated across the East
side of the East of Scotland Deanery. Our practices centre around the City of Dundee and extend to
Montrose in the North and Cupar and St Andrews in Fife in the South. There are a good variety of
small and large practices based in both urban and rural settings. All practices have a multi-
professional team approach to primary care and all team members are involved in supporting and
teaching their trainees.
Our hospital posts are based mainly in Ninewells Hospital Dundee. We also have Medicine for the
Elderly posts in Angus, and Psychiatry posts in Angus as well as in Carseview and Kingsway Care
Centre in Dundee. There are also Palliative Care posts in Roxburgh House in Dundee. Rotations are
created with the location of hospital posts and practices in mind while ensuring a balanced
experience. GP Out of Hours work can take into account the centre closest to your home or practice.
The Eastward programme is centred in Dundee. There is beautiful surrounding - and easily accessible
- countryside, lovely beaches and plenty of culture. The V and A in Dundee next to the adjacent RRS
Discovery are amongst the cultural highlights while the golf courses around St Andrews need no
introduction for sporting enthusiasts. There are many affordable opportunities to both buy and rent
properties on the market in Dundee. There is access to excellent local and private schooling for
families.
Often, trainees who complete their GPST programme with the Eastward programme opt to settle in
the area long term. Many join local partnerships, enjoying the work life balance that the region offers.
