Fife training programme
Practices in this programme are located throughout Fife and North Edinburgh. The practices are
varied ranging from suburban Edinburgh to the coastal towns of Fife. Each training team will offer an
excellent learning environment.
Practice placements will usually be in same training practice although some programmes offer the
opportunity to work in 2 different training environments.
The hospital posts are mostly based in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy but a number of other hospital
locations are used: Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline, Cameron Hospital, Leven as well as there
being psychiatry placements in Stratheden Hospital Cupar and Whyteman’s Brae Hospital Kirkcaldy.
Three hospital posts are allocated for each programme offering broad based training with relevance
to general practice.
Trainees can base themselves either in Edinburgh or Fife depending on personal circumstances.
Train services to both Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy are good.
You may be attracted to the bright lights of Edinburgh with its international festival and range of
cultural activities. Alternately you may prefer the prospect of sea swimming, world class golf courses
or cycling the quiet back roads of Fife. The good news is that working and living in Edinburgh or Fife
can offer all these leisure activities.
A significant number of trainees will stay local after their training, and many remain as partners or
salaried doctors within the area.
