Dumfries & Galloway training programme
Dumfries & Galloway GP Specialty Training offers comprehensive, high quality specialtist training in beautifiul surroundings. Training practices range from urban and semi-urban to remote and rural. Some examples of additioinal roles undertaken by local GPs include community hospitals, forensics and prison work, medical politics, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a varierty of specialist interest posts with opportunities for trainee involvement.
Hospital posts are based in Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary – a busy District General Hospital which opened in 2018, and in Midpark Psychiatric Hospital. There are often more opportunities in a District General Hospital to take clinical responsibility and perform procedures than in bigger centres. There is an active educational programme based at the infirmary and the relatively small medical community here makes it easier to get to know your colleagues across disciplines and grades.
