Emergency Medicine East has a proven track record of excellence in training with a consistent high score for Clinical/ Educational supervision with experienced Trainers. This region ranked 1st for overall trainee satisfaction of all Higher Specialist EM training programmes in the UK and 2nd in the UK for ACCS training. Trainees receive comprehensive exposure to all aspects of Emergency Medicine including pre-hospital work. The Consultant trainers work a shift system that results in high profile shop floor presence of specialists between 8am and 1am on weekdays. Trainees are encouraged to develop management roles as they progress through training. We have a transition programme for trainees moving from core to higher specialty training to prepare them for the new role and responsibilities. RCEM Exam pass rates continue to be high.
A time-protected Higher training programme exists on a weekly basis. Not only does the Training score highly, the Emergency Service in Tayside is amongst the best clinical performing services in Scotland if not the UK. Working within this service affords Trainees close professional relationships with a highly motivated Multi-disciplinary team.
Tayside as a region in which to train has much to offer. Housing and all amenities are good and with excellent road networks the region is within 1.25 hours of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Dundee city has done much to regenerate and has an active cultural centre in the University quarter with Dundee Rep Theatre, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and the only branch outside London of the V&A Museum.
Sporting / leisure activities are numerous with top quality Golf and access to Hills and superb countryside including Glenshee ski region all in close proximity.
Research, audit, teaching and management opportunities
Ninewells is a large tertiary referral centre and teaching hospital, there are opportunities to be involved in departmental and interdisciplinary audit and QI work throughout all stages of training. Teaching is delivered to trainees from consultants, peers and other specialities whilst there are opportunities to develop your teaching skills with more junior colleagues and undergraduates.
All the EM consultants have additional interests and can involve interested trainees in the management roles associated with them.
