The East deanery gastroenterology programme offers training in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. There is a strong relationship with the national liver transplant service and a satellite liver transplant clinic provides transplant hepatology experience.

The rotation comprises a five year programme based in Ninewells Hospital Dundee with further gastroenterology and general medical experience obtained at Perth Royal Infirmary and Stracathro Hospital.

The gastroenterology unit comprises of a 30 bedded mixed gastroenterology ward, and a modern endoscopy suite.

The unit provides training in all aspects of therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP, EUS, and Endoscopic mucosal resection. A diagnostic capsule endoscopy service delivers experience to trainees.

Trainees will have attachments to hepatology, upper GI cancer and therapeutic endoscopy teams as well as experience in nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease.
Tayside has a mature home parenteral nutrition service. We have close ties with interventional radiology, colorectal, hepatobilary and upper GI surgical services. There is a vibrant research programme within a world renowned biomedical unit at the University of Dundee. Research programmes include cancer biology, epidemiology of liver disease, and endoscopic training.
