Geriatric Medicine

Trainees receive a comprehensive training in all areas of Geriatric Medicine. The trainees are able to experience the components of the latest curriculum for Geriatric Medicine across a diverse and varied type of clinical environment.

In addition the excellent relationship with General Medicine training has enabled Tayside to provide a truly well rounded training experience. Clinical attachments thus range from the busy general ‘acute ‘Medicine for the Elderly admission wards through to the unusual rural Community hospital environment.

All trainees have the opportunity to gain time in different areas in a teaching, district general and community hospitals. Tayside has in addition a very strong track record in research and all trainees have excellent opportunities for research study as part of the training programme.

Regular study days are built into the training programme with in addition twice yearly joint meetings with the North of Scotland trainees.

There is no requirement to train outside of Tayside.

The East of Scotland Deanery involves Tayside, which is a beautiful area to live and work within. It has varied geography and offers diverse interests for individuals and families, from a thriving city life in Dundee to outdoor activities in Angus, Perthshire and North Fife. It has good road and rail networks to the other areas of Scotland. The quality of life in Tayside is excellent with easy access to beautiful countryside for sport and leisure as well as worldrenowned facilities for golf.

Training within the Deanery is trainee focused with attention to individual trainee needs and aspirations. Ninewells is a University teaching hospital with opportunities to become involved in research.

Research, audit, teaching and management opportunities

There are attachments to Royal Victoria Hospital and Ninewells Hospital  in Dundee, Perth Royal Infirmary  and to Angus which enable trainees to experience the range of models of care for delivering in this speciality. There is no requirement to train outside of Tayside.
