Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Programme description

GMC Reference: EOS/482

The East of Scotland Deanery involves Tayside, which is a beautiful area to live and work within. It has varied geography and offers diverse interests for individuals and families, from a thriving city life in Dundee to outdoor activities in Angus, Perthshire and North Fife. It has good road and rail networks to the other areas of Scotland.

Training within the Deanery is trainee focused with attention to individual trainee needs and aspirations. Ninewells is a University teaching hospital with opportunities to become involved in research.

The core programme is in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This is a 7 year programme leading to a CCT. Trainees will progress through a common basic (ST1 and 2) and intermediate (ST 3 – 5) training programme.

Thereafter, in advanced training (ST 6 – 7), trainees will select a number of Advanced Training Skills Modules, to be conducted in parallel with core training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It is anticipated that most of the ATSMs will be available within the East of Scotland.

The programme will centre in Dundee (Ninewells Hospital) with rotations to Fife (Forth Park Hospital). Second on call experience (ST3-5) will be gained in Dundee, Fife and Perth with ST6/7 training in Dundee – where Advanced Training Skills Modules will be offered.

Research, audit, teaching and management opportunities

Within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology training programme there are opportunities to work in all the specialty interest areas in a supported training environment.

The training is conducted within an academic university environment – individuals keen to pursue an academic career will be encouraged. There is a strong medical education and reproductive medicine focus.

Where the training is delivered?
