Community and Sexual and Reproductive Health

Programme description

GMC Reference: SES/2021

The CSRH CCT Training programme is competency based and divided into three phases: basic, intermediate and advanced training. The curricular trajectory of the programme is that trainees will be awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the end of an indicative six year training programme. The content and structure of the programme has been approved by General Medical Council (GMC) and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (FSRH) is responsible for the content, structure and delivery of the CSRH programme.  The FSRH makes recommendations to the GMC regarding the eligibility of doctors for the award of CCT. The delivery of the programme in Scotland is overseen by the lead Dean for CSRH , Professor Bill Reid.

Specialty trainees must pass the MFSRH exam.  The Diploma in GUM is not compulsory but it is anticipated that most trainees will also undertake this during their training.

Basic training (years 1-3)

The curriculum comprises 18 months of Obstetrics and Gynaecology following different, but generally similar, competencies to mainstream O&G trainees.  Trainees will also undertake an eighteen month attachment in a Sexual and Reproductive Health service.  These attachments can be undertaken flexibility between SRH and O&G to suit the individual trainee and the local services.

Intermediate training (years 4&5)

Intermediate training will continue the strand of SRH but encompass most advanced training GU medicine and will have a Public Health attachment.  Other training attachments will include Sexual Assault and Sexual Problems during this phase of training.

Advanced Training (Year 6)

This will be a year of completing all outstanding competencies but with opportunities for shadowing and preparing to become a consultant.  Attachments to different services to experience different models of SRH care will be facilitated.

The trainee will have opportunities for training in leadership and management throughout the programme, which is designed to allow trainees to develop the skills to lead and manage community based Sexual and Reproductive Health services.

Research, audit, teaching and management opportunities

This training programme replaces the SRH subspecialty training of the RCOG leading to the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in O&G.
