Acute Care Common Stem Training aims to produce multi-competent junior doctors, able to recognise and manage the sick patient and who have the complementary specialty training required for the programmes in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

The West of Scotland ACCS Training Programme is the largest in Scotland with rotations in large city centre teaching hospitals serving deprived inner city populations and district general hospitals with mixed rural and urban catchment areas. All units provide excellent training opportunities and provide trainees with exposure to a wide range of patients enabling them to easily fulfill curriculum requirements.

Research, audit, teaching and management opportunities

In Year 1 the programme comprises posts of 6 months duration in Acute Medicine & Emergency Medicine.

In Year 2 the programme comprises posts of 6 months duration in Anaesthetics & Intensive Care.

Following successful completion of the first 2 years trainees will progress to Year 3, which includes Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill).

Close ties exist with the University of Glasgow which enable trainees to a develop a research portfolio as well as further their teaching skills.
