Intensive Care Medicine

Programme description

GMC Reference: WOS/503

The West of Scotland Training Programme in Intensive Care offers training leading to a single CCT or dual CCT’s in Intensive Care Medicine and a partner specialty. Integration of partner specialty training with ICM training is tailored to meet the needs of the individual trainee and is governed by the 2011 ICM curriculum.

Our training scheme offers wide clinical experience in all areas of Intensive Care Medicine.

The majority of time will be spent in units attached to central Glasgow teaching hospitals, but trainees will also rotate through the region’s District General hospitals.

All departments have active  teaching programmes and trainees will be supported to sit the FFICM exam. Trainees will be encouraged to develop special interests and to acquire skills of value in Intensive Care such as bronchoscopy and ultrasound.

At appointment every West of Scotland dual ICM trainee will receive an individualised training schedule designed to meet the needs of the trainee and satisfy the curriculum requirements of both ICM and the partner specialty.
