| Main duties of placement: | Care of a wide range of medical conditions within an HDU setting. Treatment of medical emergencies including acute coronary syndromes, gastro-intestinal bleeding, acute renal failure and diabetic ketoacidosis. |

| Learning opportunities: | There are daily consultant ward rounds. There is exposure to insertion of central and arterial lines and the use of non-invasive ventilation. Grand Rounds on Fridays. |
| Teaching: | Mandatory curriculum teaching is on a Wednesday lunctime. This is protected time. |
