Main duties of placement:

Introduction to laboratory activities.

Outpatient clinic including Lipid, Diabetic (type 2), general endocrinology and mineral metabolism.

Taking part in the acute medical receiving rota.
Typical work pattern:

Monday to Frida, 9 am to 5pm when on main base.

Shift as per rota when on acute receiving.
Learning opportunities:
  • Laboratory-based teaching.
  • Departmental meetings weekly.
  • One-to-one tutorials.
  • Hospital grand rounds and opportunities to attend other specialities' meetings.
  • Ward-based teaching while receiving.
  • At least one clinical audit has to be completed.
Teaching:

Mandatory FY2 teaching one full day per 4 months block.

Exposure to laboratory medicine and metabolic medicine with a full range of metabolic clinics.

Work with combined medical and scientist staff.
