Main Duties of Placement
|
- Develop skills in the assessment, diagnosis and immediate management of young people with mental health disorders.
- Develop skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of physical health problems in children and young people
- The FY doctor is responsible for the initial clerking, immediate management plan (in discussion with senior medical staff), drug prescriptions and physical examination (including initial blood tests and ECG) of patients admitted to the YPU
- Venepuncture of patients (negotiated with nursing staff, some of whom do venepuncture)
- Requesting further investigations e.g. CT, MRI scans
- Discussion and where appropriate, referral to other medical/surgical specialties
- Physical health risk assessments as per care plan (MEED), antipsychotic monitoring and medication side effect rating scales in conjunction with the specialty doctor
- Attendance at all clinical meetings
- Attendance at weekly psychiatric supervision with clinical/educational supervisor
- Completion of Discharge Documents through Clinical Portal

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
