Individual Placement Description
Placement Emergency Medicine
Year F1
Region East
Hospital(s) Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Perth Royal Infirmary
Main Duties of Placement
  • Ward rounds in the short stay ward.
  • Jobs and discharges for the ward patients.
  • Seeing patients with minor injuries.
  • Assisting with more unwell patients.
Typical Work Pattern
  • Two week rotating pattern.
  • First week 8-4 Mon-Sun.
  • Second week off Mon & Tues, 3-11 Weds-Fri, weekend off.
  • Repeat.
Learning Opportunities
  • Very well supervised post so you will learn a lot as you go along.
Teaching
  • A&E junior teaching every Thursday.
  • Also you will get to go to hospital FY1 teaching.
Unique Selling Points
  • Good hours, relatively low workload but lots of opportunity to get involved.
  • Welcoming and friendly department, helpful seniors, lots of experience of things like trauma that you don't see elsewhere.
  • Minor injuries particularly useful for future GP.
