Placement Maxillofacial Surgery

Main Duties of Placement

Medical care of Maxillofacial Inpatients. Daily team ward rounds. Collaboration with ENT FY Doctors. First responder to medical issues.

Full engagement with all department activities.

Typical Work Pattern

0800-1600 most days. 0800-2100 and 0800-1830 once each per week. 1 weekend per month. 1 week of nights per attachment. When on-call, this post shares cover with Neuro, Plastics, ENT, Eyes and Derms.

Learning Opportunities

Many opportunities. We expect active participation in theatre and in outpatient clinic – seeing patients with senior staff. Trauma cases, head and neck cancer cases, skin cancer work and many more. Seeing the patients from the start allows differential diagnosis and investigations to be considered. Theatre brings exposure to major head and neck surgery, reconstructive surgery and tracheostomy care. Unique exposure.

Teaching

Normal FY2 teaching plus departmental teaching on a Friday afternoon (opportunities to teach students too).

Full integration into all activities of an active and busy Unit. Honing examination, history and diagnostic skills. There’s more to this post than ward work.
