Placement Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
Year F2
Region East
Hospital(s) Perth Royal Infirmary
Main Duties of Placement
  • Ward duties (bloods, elective clerking, ward rounds, post op reviews, prescribing)
  • Participate in elective theatre cases
  • Pre-assessment clinic
  • Support FY1s and ANPs
  • Night duties - medical support for patients in PRI surgical wards (1, 7 & 8), part of PRI HAN team, support for AMU admissions team
Typical Work Pattern

Standard days, long days, night duties.

Part of rota including Ninewells Hospital. 

Learning Opportunities
  • Daily elective orthopaedic theatre lists
  • Attend daily ortho Out-patient clinics
  • Consultant Teaching on ward rounds, clinics and theatre
  • Attend regional PG Teaching
Teaching
  • Regular Centralised Orthopaedic Departmental Teaching
  • Attend Daily Trauma meetings whilst in Ninewells
  • Post-graduate Deanery Teaching with cross cover of wards
