Placement Cardiology
Year F1

Main Duties of Placement

Within the Department of Cardiology F1 trainees will be exposed to training and service opportunities which will be of value in their acquisition of clinical competence.

Typical Work Pattern

You will attend daily ward rounds, CCU (plus triage/attendance at emergencies/arrests) or cardiology ward, independently or with registrar/consultant. You will participate in normal day-to-day ward work, including clerking patients.

Learning Opportunities

There will be Participation in out-patient clinics once per week, and in the operating theatre roughly twice per week. There are weekly joint meetings between cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons.

Teaching

There is a weekly journal club.

On-call for CCU/cardiology and sometimes renal medicine on a shift basis.

Weekly angioplasty/EP meeting.

The routine work gives daily exposure to chest X-Ray and CT scan interpretation, as well as daily management of chest drains.
