Main Duties of Placement | Wards 27 and 28 comprise a 32-bedded unit catering mostly for acute general medical step-down patients. |
Typical Work Pattern | The medical teams also work in the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) admitting acute cases from home (75%) or the hospital A&E Dept. Ward 27/28 is divided into 2 consultant teams, each of which undertakes a half day receiving shift in AMAU every 4th day. |
Learning Opportunities | While most of the work of the FY2 doctor is around this general medical take and its sequelae, there will also be the opportunity for gaining some additional experience in the specialities of Diabetes and Endocrinology. Each sub-speciality has, based within the ward area, Specialist Nursing units serving diagnostic and clinical management functions. |
Teaching | There will also be the opportunity to attend general medical, thyroid and diabetes clinics and there are regular ward-based educational meetings. |
