Main Duties of Placement | The general job description is that the FY2s are the junior doctors on the ward providing care for patients with acute and chronic renal failure and those on all modes of renal replacement therapy (Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and renal transplants). |
Typical Work Pattern | You will also cover Coronary Care unit when on night shift. Your hours are fully compliant and include leave and off time where we encourage you to take study leave. There are 2 FYs on the ward at any one time, 1 is on nights and 1 is off (the rota is shared with a CMT). You are fully supported by HCSW, SPRs, an Associate Specialist and Consultants. Most competencies are achieved during FY1 year, but any outstanding ones can be gained here. There is opportunity for practical procedures including central line insertion if the candidates are enthusiastic. You are encouraged to participate in Renal Biopsy Meetings on Mondays 12.30pm. |
Learning Opportunities | You will get a thorough exposure to these patients and managing their medical complications and drug prescribing and will increase your competence in data interpretation. |
Teaching | 2x 2hr mandatory teaching per month for FY2 trainees. |
