Placement Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Year F2
Region North
Hospital(s) Dr Grays Hospital, Elgin
Main Duties of Placement

Mix of ward work, attendance at outpatient clinics (both within Dr Gray's Hospital and in the community) and occasional commitment to theatre sessions.

Oncall duties to include initial assessments in the ED and on the ward and close liaison with consultant oncall.

Other duties may include:

  • Ward rounds
  • Clerking of patients and patient administration
  • Admitting elective and emergency patients
  • Routine post-op review
  • Preparing discharge materials
  • Attendance/assisting in theatre as required
  • Out-patient clinics
  • Co-ordinating investigations
  • Arranging onward referrals
Typical Work Pattern

Full shift, cross cover between O&G and Paediatrics.

  • Departmental teaching (combined) and learning opportunities in both the ED and the OPC
  • Opportunity to attend clinics - general and specialist
  • Supervision for specialist paediatric interventions

Teaching

Mandatory F2 teaching every second Friday; covers a range of topics and follows the Foundation Curriculum.

This is 30 hours over the course of F2 includes the opportunity to video link to national teaching.

The expectation is of 30 hours of private study in F2 in addition, as well as attendance at immersive simulation and ALS.
