Main Duties of Placement | Carrying out consultations at the surgery (under GP supervision) being part of the on-call team and seeing/treating acute illness in adults and children. Helping to look after patients in our community hospital. Taking part in ward rounds and MDT meetings and caring for patients with a range of illnesses from post op recovery to acute infections to palliative care. |
Typical Work Pattern | 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5pm on Friday and a half day off during the week. |
Learning Opportunities | Ward based learning at the community hospital, MDT meetings weekly and Teams meetings with community geriatrician Weekly practice meetings at the surgery with clinical presentations from colleagues. Cancer care meetings, SEA meetings. We have GP’s with specialist interests in dermatology, minor surgery, ultrasound, joint injection and we encourage shadowing of these doctors to gain additional learning opportunities. |
Teaching | Standard FY2 core teaching and self development time as per curriculum as well as 2 hour in-house tutorial every 2 weeks. |
Unique Selling Points | We work in a beautiful small town, 20 miles out of Aberdeen but easily accessible by car and by public transport. We are a long established practice with a broad portfolio of experience and a large population so there are frequent opportunities to gain knowledge on virtually any subject. Our community hospital provides another aspect of care for our patients and for trainees working in a smaller team provides a deeper level of involvement and feedback with many opportunities for portfolio development. |
