Main Duties of Placement | The trainees will be attached to a named consultant who covers a specific sector of Highland. Experience can be gained in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry dealing with all the major mental problems. The trainees will also become familiar with the Mental Health Act, the Adults with Incapacity Act and be given the chance to attend MHA tribunals when appropriate. Multidisciplinary working is essential and the trainees will gain experience in working closely with a community mental health team. When on call the trainees are supported by a mental health assessment team, a day hospital and out of hours triage nurses. |
Typical Work Pattern | There is a partial shift rota that is fully compliant. |
Learning Opportunities | Training is provided by clinical supervision from the consultants. There are regular teaching slots with a mixture of outside speakers, journal clubs, and case conferences. The trainees are encouraged to participate in the Balint group, interview skills training and with the audit programme. |
Teaching | 1 day a month FY2 teaching. This takes the form of curriculum-based teaching in the mornings and facilitated small group case-based discussions taking place in the afternoons. |
