Placement Otolaryngology

Main Duties of Placement

Daily operating lists are used flexibly by different Consultants. There is one list each week in the Modular Day Case Unit. FY2 trainees are encouraged to attend lists where possible and when it would be a useful training opportunity.

 

Typical Work Pattern

8.15am-8:30am: Handover from the Hospital at Night Team.

8.30am onwards: There is a formal ward round involving FY2s, middle grade ENT staff and consultants.

ENT Ward: Elective admissions and emergency.

Ward 1A: Day cases.

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based teaching.

Morbidity and Mortality Meetings.

Lectures.

Journal clubs.

Teaching

1 day per month FY2 teaching. This takes the form of curriculum-based teaching followed by facilitated small group case-based discussions.

Unique Selling Points

Varied experience of medicine, surgery and A&E. Working without a Registrar.
