| Main Duties of Placement | Junior doctors are exposed to a wide range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions during their placement. Plenty experience in performing practical procedures such as pleural tap and chest drain insertion is also available. |

| Learning Opportunities | Consultant- and registrar-led ward rounds occur daily and plenty of supervision is provided. In addition to experienced and dedicated nursing staff, the unit also benefits from the support of specialist nurses and medical support workers. |
| Teaching | Extensive educational opportunities exist within a respiratory medicine post in Aberdeen and include weekly unit lunchtime meeting (including a journal club and mortality and morbidity meetings), a weekly junior doctor educational meeting (led by a consultant), in addition to a programme of weekly tutorials specifically for FY1s. All junior doctors are also expected to attend the weekly grand rounds held in the state-of-the art Suttie centre. Weekly 1 hr teaching sessions every Thursday for FY1s. |
