Main Duties of Placement

General ward duties, assistance in operating theatre, assessment and management of acute surgical emergencies in the ED. This includes a wide range of surgical conditions. You will be expected to participate in teaching of 4th year medical students and to supervise the F1 doctor on the ward.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift. After 21:00 there is cross cover with the Medicine Department for acute medical emergencies.

Monthly Webstream RCPE Evening medical updates.

Bi-monthly VC Trauma Forum QEUH.

Teaching

Monthly F2 teaching - 5 hour session.

Unique Selling Points

Lorn and Islands is a small friendly hospital with a reputation for training. In this post you will work in a multidisciplinary team with direct supervision from a Consultant Surgeon. You will be involved with the care of patients across a variety of surgical specialities typical of a rural surgical service. There is the opportunity to enhance skills in minor surgery and in the ED.
