Main Duties of Placement | A post in obstetrics in FY2 provides a combination of both emergency and elective admissions at resident level. Theatre and clinic opportunities are provided on a rota basis allowing provision of both generic medical and surgical skills. Primary care opportunities are also available from other disciplines such as community midwives, breast feeding specialists and physiotherapy. In addition this post introduces the ethical issues faced by professionals when there are two patients rather than one. |

Learning Opportunities | Audit is expected to be performed within your stay in the department and then presented at a dedicated audit meeting. This post allows the development of management skills working with other professionals equally as important in the care of pregnant women. |
Teaching | Regular teaching is provided on a formal basis in-house within a postgraduate programme run concurrently with external expert speakers in their field. 2x 2hr mandatory teaching per month for FY2 trainees. |
