Main Duties of Placement

The FY1s and FY2s are part of a junior medical paediatric rota at RACH which comprises 10 doctors spending a week at a time in different areas (Assessment Unit, Medical Ward, High Dependency Ward, Day Case Unit as well as Nights when they also cover the Surgical Ward).

Average working hours per week 43.9.

Learning Opportunities

Teaching provided as well as ward teaching every week.

One hour x-ray meeting on Tuesdays.

Teaching

Wednesday 9am includes Departmental Educational talks (MDT forum) and M&M Meetings monthly. All are encouraged to present a case in this meeting.

Thursday 8.30am is FY2 teaching and they are asked to present and discuss topics for colleagues. SPR's and Consultants also participate.

There is a Friday X-ray meeting at 1.30pm and a Journal club at 1pm on a monthly basis.

All are actively encouraged to go to Wednesday Grand Round Meetings during term time.

2 x2hr teaching monthly for FY2 trainees.

Unique Selling Points

Educational Supervision is closely undertaken, although they work closely with all Consultants and feedback from them is sought.
