Main Duties of Placement | ITU ward rounds, review of level 1 patients. Join anaesthetists in theatre. Surgical Pre-assessment clinics every Wednesday. Cover of surgical lates and weekends. |
Typical Work Pattern | Days in ITU: 8.00-4.30 pm. Days in theatre: 8.00am-4.30pm (can be flexible dependent upon learning opportunities). |
Learning Opportunities | CME meetings. Thursday afternoon teaching sessions. Ward rounds. Learn during sessions with anaesthetists in theatre; practical procedures and knowledge in anaesthetics and physiology. |
Teaching | Once a week FY1 tutorials. Grand Rounds. Afternoon teaching sessions in anaesthetics. |
Unique Selling Points | Get to do many practical procedures with guidance from anaesthetists and registrars (Arterial lines, spinals, airway management, LMAs, intubations). Learn about anaesthetics and physiology from experienced consultants and registrars. Opportunity to understand management of acutely ill patients and how they are managed in ITU. |
