Year | F1 |
Region | South-East |
Hospital(s) | Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh |
Main Duties of Placement | The FY1 is responsible for macroscopic and microscopic examinations of simple specimens e.g. gallbladders, skin biopsies and appendices. Typical Work Pattern | Full shift - Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with an out of hours commitment to Acute Medicine RIE. |
Learning Opportunities | Opportunities in observing post mortem examinations and shadowing other trainees/consultants for more complicated pathological cases. Opportunity to underpin core learning with out of hours work within Acute Medicine. |
Teaching | Weekly FY1 teaching. Informal and formal teaching from other trainees and consultants within the department. |
Unique Selling Points | This is a unique post where, for the only time, the focus is on learning rather than being relied on for the workload. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and report simple pathology cases, as well as time for developing other essential skills such as carrying out audits and research. This is a great post for enhancing your CV for future applications. |
