During the 4-month rotation different shifts carry different roles and responsibilities; day shifts on the medical, care of the elderly and observation wards, admitting unselected medical patients on both day and night shifts and 1700 to 2100 hospital covering shifts.

Duties:

• Ward rounds each morning with up to date knowledge of lab results especially microbiology and ongoing patient issues.
• Typical ward duties, discharges, clerk ins, patient reviews, venflons and bloods etc. In addition you are expected to communicate management plans and results with patients and their relatives and GPs. The Clinical Nurse Practitioners provide excellent support and advice on a practical level.

Multi-disciplinary medical unit meeting every Tuesday incorporating a monthly X–Ray meeting. FY1 teaching every Wednesday. Opportunistic learning on ward rounds by Consultants each from a different specialty, Specialist Registrars, Pharmacists etc.

Being involved in the management of a wide range of medical conditions with the opportunity to practice new procedures under supervision. Working within a large team that works closely together.
