Main Duties of Placement | You will be part of the GI Ooncology ward team, based on one of the general oncology wards with at least one other ward doctor (FY2, IMT, GPST or CF) and often, though not always an ANP.. Here you You will be ward based and provide general medical care to patients allocated to you, including attending ward rounds, daily reviewof patients and amending clinical management plans as needed. You will be well supported by the oncology registrar and consultant teams responsible for your patients.will spend most of your days on the wards doing your own ward rounds. On these you will review your patients and amend treatment plans as required. There are 2 consultant ward rounds per week and they will see their patients and give more definitive plans. In between times, you can go to clinics and sit in as well as being able to watch radiotherapy planning sessions. |
Typical Work Pattern | In Oncology you will work Generally you work 0900-1700 Out of hours work in this post is with acute medicine. When working 0900-2130 you will cover the medical admissions unit (MAU) from with cross covering AMAU Beds from 1700-2130 if working from 0900-2130. Weekend work is done in s are spent in AMAU Beds from 0900-2130. |
Learning Opportunities | Lots of consultant contact so can learn from them easily. You will be well supported by the registrars and consultant teams within oncology and by the acute medical registrars and consultants when working out of hours. There are strong links with the Hospital Palliative Care team to help support patients with palliative care needs. There is opportunity to attend outpatient clinics and the radiotherapy planning suite if the rota allows. Opportunistic informal ward learning. |
Teaching | FY1 teaching at WGH for 1 hour per week. |
