Main Duties of Placement | Predominantly a ward-based doctor for neurosurgery patients (and all neurosciences patients when OOH), some work in surgical pre-assessment clinic. Opportunities for involvement theatre, MDTs, and clinics when the wards are covered and safe. |
Typical Work Pattern | Full shift. DCN-based nights and OOH shifts. |
Learning Opportunities | A unique role for an FY2; be they a wannabe GP, physician, neurologist, radiologist, surgeon, or neurosurgeon. You will be exposed to the full range of neuropathology in a tertiary unit covering SE Scotland. You will hone your neurological examination and history-taking skills and gain experience in managing acutely unwell patients. |
Teaching | Neurosurgery-centric teaching from consultants and trainees, alongside timetabled FY2 teaching. Friday afternoon academic meetings including monthly M+M |
