Main Duties of Placement | First assessment of front door patients. Treatment of minor and major injury/illness and resus. Arranging and interpreting emergency investigations e.g. CT scanning. Transfer/referral to speciality or discharge +/- arranged follow up. Patient information i.e. setting criteria for prompt return to A+E. Practical procedures e.g. suturing. Entire time in A&E department. |
Typical Work Pattern | Full shifts in A&E with approximately equal thirds days, evenings and nights. High proportion of weekends. |
Learning Opportunities | Senior on hand to discuss any interesting/difficult cases. Exposure to broad variety of presentations. |
Teaching | Daily departmental teaching. Weekly protected Emergency Department Teaching. Weekly FY2 teaching. Monthly M&M. Radiology meetings available. |
